I know it was a rough day for us yesterday, with the front office not doing much at the Trade Deadline. However, this past week our Red Sox went 4-2 winning both series against the Dodgers and Twins. One of those teams was a World Series favorite going into the year. We still are sitting in a playoff spot after these two series.
When looking at who could be the player of the week, several factors are considered. Performance on offense and defense are two of those factors. Clutch hitting is also considered. Before we get into who the player of the week is, I would like to give some shout outs to some players who had some big hits and defensive moments.
Lets start off with the Roman Empire. He continues to show incredible discipline at the plate. He is currently batting .279 with an OBP of .401 and remember folks he is only a rookie. TS10 also had some big moments during both series but mostly in the games against the Twins. He homered in back to back games, showed some great defense and had some big RBI’s. If he can heat back up this lineup will be dangerous down the stretch. Centerfield or 2nd base, doesn’t matter, because no matter where Ceddanne is at on the field you know he will have some incredible defense. His bat has cooled off since All Star break but he still is providing us with much needed defense.
Now it is time for our Player of the Week. Alex Bregman has been one of the best pickups of the offseason. He is leading the team in batting average at .298. His last 5 games, 3 against Dodgers and 2 against Twins, he is batting .381 with 6 RBIs and 2 big time Breggy Bombs. I think I can speak for everyone when I say we definitely need to lock him up long term. I can’t wait to see what he does against his former team the Houston Astros.
