The Red Sox managed to cram every possible mood swing into a single July afternoon. First, they finished off Tuesday’s rain-soaked cliff-hanger by edging Cincinnati 5-3. A few hours (and way too many concession-stand Hot Dogs) later, they let a 3-0 cushion evaporate faster than a puddle on Lansdowne, coughing up an 8-4 nightcap that felt like déjà glue.
