RED SOX COMPLETE THE SWEEP! Yankees Blow It, Boston Walks It Off
The Boston Red Sox have officially done the impossible.
No, they didn’t climb back into the playoff race.
They did something even more satisfying.
They swept the New York Yankees.
A team that looked completely lifeless against Colorado suddenly turned into the 1927 Yankees...except wearing Red Sox uniforms.
Sunday night’s 5-4 walk-off victory in 10 innings completed Boston’s first four-game sweep of the Yankees since 2018, sending Fenway into a frenzy and Yankees fans into therapy.
Sonny Gray Was One Inning Away From History
For more than seven innings, Sonny Gray looked like he was pitching in a video game on Rookie difficulty.
He carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning, striking out nine Yankees while completely embarrassing one of baseball’s biggest payrolls.
For seven innings, New York hitters looked like they were swinging pool noodles.
Then...
...baseball happened.
The no-hitter disappeared.
The lead disappeared.
The bullpen reminded everyone why cardiologists stay busy in New England.
The Ninth Inning...Because Red Sox Baseball Can’t Be Normal
Boston entered the ninth with a lead.
Naturally...
The Yankees tied it.
Extra innings?
Of course.
Then the Yankees actually grabbed a 4-2 lead in the 10th, thanks in part to a pair of defensive miscues by Boston.
Game over, right?
Wrong.
Because apparently the Yankees wanted absolutely no part of leaving Boston with even one victory.
Jarren Duran Delivers the Knockout
The Red Sox answered with a three-run rally in the bottom of the 10th.
Anthony Seigler got things started.
Tzu-Wei Cheng tied the game with a sacrifice fly.
Then...
Jarren Duran ripped the walk-off RBI single.
Ballgame.
Brooms out.
Cue the Sweet Caroline.
Cue Yankees Twitter explaining why getting swept by a last-place team “doesn’t really matter.”
Yankees Fans Spent Months Talking...
Remember all those Yankees fans who spent the first half of the season reminding everyone where Boston sat in the standings?
Funny...
They got swept by that same team.
Four games.
Four losses.
Outscored.
Outpitched.
Outplayed.
Sometimes baseball writes comedy better than Netflix.
Don’t Let Ownership Hide Behind This
Let’s pump the brakes before John Henry starts printing postseason tickets.
This was an incredible weekend.
It was fun.
It was emotional.
It was exactly what Red Sox fans needed.
It also doesn’t erase months of inconsistency, roster holes, bullpen questions, or the looming trade deadline.
Craig Breslow still has work to do.
One magical weekend shouldn’t become an excuse for standing pat.
Final Thoughts
If you’re a Red Sox fan...
Enjoy every second of this one.
A four-game sweep of the Yankees never gets old.
If you’re a Yankees fan...
