Red Sox Win Third Straight Over Yankees, Because Baseball Makes Absolutely No Sense
The team that just lost a series to the Rockies suddenly owns the Yankees. Sure... why not?
If you’re looking for logic, you’ve come to the wrong baseball team.
Just days after the Red Sox managed to lose two out of three to the Rockies—the worst team in baseball—they’ve now beaten the Yankees three straight times.
Saturday’s latest masterpiece was a 4-1 victory at Fenway Park, pushing Boston to 35-46 while handing New York its third consecutive loss in the series.
Jake Bennett Was an Absolute Problem
The Yankees came into Fenway expecting to face a last-place club.
Instead, they got introduced to Jake Bennett.
The rookie carved up New York for 6⅓ innings, allowing just one run while completely handcuffing one of baseball’s most dangerous lineups. At one point, Bennett retired the first 16 Yankees he faced and left to a standing ovation from the Fenway crowd.
For a team desperate for reliable starting pitching, Bennett looked like the guy who forgot to read the scouting report that said he was supposed to be intimidated.
Anthony Seigler Gets the Last Laugh
You couldn’t script this any better.
Former Yankees first-round pick Anthony Seigler launched the first home run of his Major League career...
...against the Yankees.
Somewhere in the Bronx, a scout quietly closed his laptop and stared out the window for a while.
Masataka Yoshida Started the Fireworks
Before fans had finished finding their seats, Masataka Yoshida crushed a leadoff homer off Gerrit Cole.
Then Willson Contreras ripped a two-run double.
By the third inning, Cole looked like he’d rather be filling potholes on I-95 than pitching at Fenway.
Yankees Fans Are Having a Rough Weekend
Let’s review:
Thursday: Lost 6-3.
Friday: Lost 6-1.
Saturday: Lost 4-1.
That’s three straight losses to the last-place Red Sox.
If you’re a Yankees fan, you spent all season reminding everyone where Boston sits in the standings.
Now you’re getting shoved around by the same team you called irrelevant.
Baseball is beautiful.
Don’t Let This Distract You...
The Red Sox are playing terrific baseball this weekend.
That’s worth celebrating.
But don’t confuse a great series with a great season.
Boston still has work to do before anyone should be talking about playoff races instead of trade deadlines.
Win the series.
Then win another one.
Then maybe we’ll talk.
Final Thoughts
Nothing cures a miserable week quite like making Yankees fans miserable.
Three straight wins.
Dominant pitching.
Young players stepping up.
And Gerrit Cole walking off the mound wondering why Fenway keeps ruining his weekends.
We’ll take it.
